Durham has been crowned one of the UK’s most innovative cities, according to research by tax relief firm Catax.
The city made 150 claims for research and development (R&D) tax credits in a year, with the claims worth £10m, putting it in the top 10 nationally for research.
Businesses which spend time and money developing a new product, business process or service could potentially claim tax relief for R&D, with the average claim around £44,000.
It is thought many businesses do not claim for the relief, generally because of misconceptions on how the scheme works.
